Greetings Rangers,
As mentioned in last week’s newsletter, we decided to make a slight change to the format and remove some of the sections we were previously adding.
We’ve removed the ‘News from Gravity Forms’ section and will add anything significant to the community section. If you want to get all the latest news from the command center, you can subscribe to the Gravity Forms newsletter.
We really want to focus on what we’re doing at GravityRanger and the cool stuff we find out in the community and from our readers.
LATEST FROM GRAVITYRANGER
We’re still plowing away on the new membership implementation. We’ve added a waitlist signup to the GravityRanger home page. If you’re interested, get on the list!
I decided I wouldn’t use a membership plugin but instead wanted to build as many features as possible using Gravity Forms.
Maybe next week, I’ll get you a sneak peek at what we’re doing behind the scenes.
New Add-ONs Directory
We’ve added an add-on directory to the site; this is not an all-inclusive list (yet); we’re still working on cleaning up the listings and adding any missing ones.
We added this by scraping the web for the content, and then we used Gravity Forms to import the data into the site and create the individual posts. I think we had it all done in about 30 minutes.
Watch for a tutorial on how we did that coming soon.
Published This Week
We published two new pieces of content this week. A help doc and a tutorial. Both of these articles were written because of an increase in user requests related to these topics.
- Remove Gravity Forms Required Field Indicator
- Gravity Forms Opt-in form for Multiple File Downloads [Advanced]
Add-On Highlight
If you’ve ever exported and imported a form, you know that Gravity Forms does not replace the form if it already exists; instead, it adds the form as a new form and assigns a new form ID.
This is a huge problem for a lot of people who like to modify their forms in a staging site and then want to move those forms back to production but don’t want to have to change the ID in the shortcodes throughout the site.
Until now, anyway, I stumbled upon this add-on Power Booster for Gravity Forms that adds a feature to replace a form when importing.
It has a bunch of other cool features, listed below, but that was the most mind-blowing for me this week.
- Adds ‘Last Entry’ column to forms list to indicate which forms are actually used
- Enables merge tags in HTML fields (form must have page breaks)
- Maintains .json file exports of each form when forms are edited and allows forms to be updated by loading the files. Local JSON works similarly to ACF and enables forms to be put into version control with themes or plugins.
- Adds a Resend Feeds button near the Resend Notifications button when viewing an entry
- Adds a tab ‘Replace Forms’ to the Import/Export page that updates existing forms instead of creating duplicates
- Adds field IDs to the left of labels when viewing or editing an entry in the dashboard
- Adds field IDs to the right of labels when editing forms
- Adds a “Copy Shortcode” row action link to the forms list
- Caches the database queries in the Gravity Forms dashboard widget
NEXT WEEKS ROADMAP
On the schedule for next week are the following topics:
- Addressing a significant problem for many users: how to handle conditional payments for credit, catch, and check.
