Formsieve

Formsieve adds two-layer spam filtering to Gravity Forms using local server checks plus an AI review that reads message content.

What it does

Spam comes in two forms: bots and real people sending sales pitches or scams. Most tools catch bots but miss human-written spam. Formsieve handles both without adding a CAPTCHA to your forms.

It runs local checks first—a time-to-submit token, replay cache, per-IP rate limit, allow/block lists, WordPress's Disallowed Comment Keys, and disposable email domain detection. Entries that pass those go to the Formsieve AI service, which returns a spam probability, a category like vendor solicitation or scam, and a short reason explaining the verdict.

You can set per-form actions: mark as spam, discard, or show a validation error. Entries in a middle review band get a tag like "[Possible spam 62%]" added to the notification subject so you can decide. If the service goes down, forms keep working by default.

Key features

  • Local checks run on your server before any AI call is made
  • AI check reads message content to catch human-written spam
  • No CAPTCHA required
  • Per-form actions: mark as spam, discard, or refuse with a validation error
  • Review band tags suspicious entries in notification subjects with a probability score
  • Entry panel shows verdict, probability column, and Re-check and Mark spam/not spam controls
  • Privacy-conscious: IP addresses, full email addresses, passwords, payment fields, and uploads are never sent to the service

Is there a free plan?

Yes. After a 14-day or 500-check trial (no card required), you get 100 AI checks per month for one production site on the Free plan. Paid plans start at $49 a year.

Do my visitors have to solve a CAPTCHA?

No. Formsieve uses server-side and AI checks only, so there is nothing extra for visitors to complete.

What data is sent to the Formsieve service?

The plugin's readme lists exactly what is sent, when, and to whom. IP addresses, full email addresses, passwords, payment fields, and uploads are never sent. An administrator must enter a key and accept a notice naming every recipient before anything is transmitted.

What happens if the Formsieve service is unavailable?

By default the plugin fails open, meaning an outage or billing issue never blocks your form from accepting submissions.
